Will you match my existing shingles?
We reuse the shingles we remove when they are in good shape and bring matching replacements when they are not. On older roofs the color may not be a perfect match, and we will tell you that before we start.
What metal do you use for chimney flashing?
On most asphalt shingle roofs we use aluminum or galvanized steel. On slate, cedar or historic homes we use copper, which lasts as long as the roof. We avoid pairing copper with galvanized steel or aluminum on the same detail because the two corrode each other.
Can a chimney leak be fixed in winter?
Flashing and caps can be installed in cold weather if the roof is dry and free of ice. Mortar work and crown repairs need temperatures above about 40 degrees for the mix to cure, so in cold months we may tarp and flash first, then finish the masonry in spring.
Why does my chimney leak only in heavy storms?
Light rain runs off. Heavy, wind-driven rain gets pushed sideways into loose counter flashing, through open mortar joints and into an uncapped flue. If your leak only shows up in big storms, the flashing and the brick face are the first things we check.
